"Fun of Weaving — Decoding Patterned Band Weaving Technique" Talk and Demonstration

This programme will introduce the historical and cultural significance, principles, process and tools of Hakka and Wai Tau patterned band weaving, compare the differences between old and new weaving tools, explain the characteristics of traditional Hakka and Wai Tau patterned bands’ patterns, colour matching combinations and their meanings to Hakka and Wai Tau women, and demonstrate and teach the weaving of patterned bands. Participants will be able to learn the techniques and tools used in making traditional Hakka and Wai Tau patterned bands, as well as the meanings of the different patterns, and appreciate the intricacies of patterned band weaving technique.
